Flute Bag vs. Flute Case – Which One is Right for You?
One of the perks of being a flute player is that you get the option to choose from several cool-looking bags and cases specifically made for your instrument. When you have all these options, how do you know what style is the right choice for you? My goal is to help you gain some clarity on this question! Below, I will compare two popular products: Fluterscooter Bags and Protec Slimline Flute Cases. These are two very different styles but are great products to consider when buying accessories for your flute!
Fluterscooter Bags
I personally use a Fluterscooter bag, and I think it is a great option for when you have your flute with you, but you also need to run errands. I don’t like leaving my instruments in the car, so sometimes I will use this bag as both an instrument bag and a purse. I also use it as my personal item on airplanes.
Fluterscooter bags also come in multiple colors and styles. For example, the Cedar Wood (the one I have) and the Black Matte have an extra shoulder strap in addition to the short handles that you can lengthen to turn them into crossbody bags. The Wine or Silver bags have longer handles to make them great over-the-shoulder bags. Each bag has a plush interior with a lined pocket on the outside. You can also keep your instrument secure with the adjustable straps inside the bag! Fluterscooter bags are also water-resistant, and the exterior is made from either leather or vegan leather (depending on the model).
Protec Slimline Flute Cases
While I do not personally use this case, I have students who use this style, and they love it! This style works as a case with a separate compartment for accessories that has multiple zipper pouches within. It also has handles and a shoulder strap. This model comes in several colors too! Protec does have other models that let you put a piccolo in the case as well.
The front pocket is 15 inches long, and it extends a couple of inches. This allows a lot of room to store your accessories. Protec is very durable, and your instrument will definitely be secure in this case. The outer material is made of durable nylon with zig-zag stitching, and the interior has molded cutouts lined with velvet, so your flute can fit securely.
What Can Fit in Both the Fluterscooter Bag and Protec Slimline Flute Case:

- Pencils
- Wallet (small wallet for Protec case)
- Keys (small set for Protec case)
- Flute and piccolo stands

While these two brands aren’t the only brands to choose from, they give you a good idea of what kind of accessories are available. These cases and bags make great birthday and holiday gifts or a way to treat yourself and upgrade your flute style!
